Empirically-validated Brief Strategic Family Therapy® Launches www.BSFT.org to Address Realignment of Federal and State Resources toward Evidence-based Family Therapy Programs

MIAMI — Brief Strategic Family Therapy Institute at the University of
Miami Miller School of Medicine is pleased to announce the launch of www.BSFT.org,
a new Web site devoted to BSFT, the cost-effective, evidence-based,
family-focused intervention which improves family relationships, treats
conduct problems and reduces delinquency and drug use. The BSFT
Institute has trained and consulted at community mental health and
substance abuse agencies and judicial institutions in more than 40
states as well as sites outside the United States.
Developed at the Miller School of Medicines renowned Center for Family
Studies over the course of 37 years, research studies indicate BSFT can
achieve favorable outcomes at cost savings in comparison with the usual mental
health and juvenile justice services, such as detention,
incarceration and residential treatment.
These are changing times for behavioral healthcare, with the movement
toward evidence-based therapy a part of the national health care
discussion. Federal and state governments increasingly specify
evidence-based practices for community agencies. For example, North
Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recently changed its
Service Definition and Required Components to specify BSFT as one of
only seven acceptable Intensive In-Home Services for providers.
